Foundation for Inner Peace
Planned Giving

Partners on the Path

In 1975, Dr. Helen Schucman, the scribe of A Course in Miracles, gave the Foundation for Inner Peace its unique function: publishing and disseminating the Course. As you know, the Course is a self-study spiritual psychotherapeutic process which teaches that forgiveness is a path to inner peace and the unconditional love of God.

For most of the thirty-seven years of the Foundation’s history, the printed book was the principal vehicle for disseminating the Course. It became clear in 1982 that our function included carefully supervising translating the Course into as many languages as possible. We therefore founded the “Adopt-a-Language Program.” Each published translation has taken at least five to ten years in time to complete and has cost between $100,000 and $800,000. Nevertheless, with only a tiny, full-time staff and translators working under limited time contracts, prevailing publishing technology helped us produce nineteen translations, representing 85 countries around the world. Six more translations are in process.

We are deeply grateful to our Partners on the Path whose donations and bequests have helped us bridge the difference between rising operational costs and income from book sales. Now we urgently seek your help to realize the potential of digital dissemination on the Web.

The Impact of the Digital Age

Digital publishing has brought a profound change to the publishing industry. In 2011, Amazon announced that 50% of all books sold were digital. In March, 2012 the Association of American Publishers reported that the sales of e-books has risen 49.4% from January 2011 to January 2012.

Although the Foundation embraced digital publishing when eBooks were in their infancy, the cost of eBooks, apps, audio books and other digital formats has become a formidable financial challenge to the Foundation. Only with your support can we develop and make available digital versions of our translations worldwide.

We invite you to join us with renewed enthusiasm to embrace this digital revolution.

Planned Giving Options

Opportunities for supporting the Foundation’s expansion into the digital realm, continuing support for the Translation program, underwriting scholarship copies of the Course, are varied and exciting. No contribution is too small because together, they become large.

The Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It is designated a Public Charity. To the extent authorized by current law, contributions are tax deductible.

Contributions can be made by downloading our mail-in form, by using our online form or by contacting the Foundation directly. (See contact information below.) We welcome all forms of giving from a simple check, automatic monthly donations, giving to the Adopt-A -Language program, to longer-term philanthropy ($5 and $10 donations are as valuable an indication of Course students support as are long-terms bequests).

The gift of appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds also have tax advantages. If securities have been held over a year, instead of selling them and giving cash, you are entitled to take a charitable deduction for their full current value.

If you leave a bequest in your Will for either a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate, you can support the Foundation for many years. A suggested form for such a donation is:

“I bequeath to the Foundation for Inner Peace, a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of the State of New York, (Tax ID # 23 -7174187), the sum of …… dollars for the corporate purposes of the Foundation.”

Partnership with the Foundation can also be achieved through your life insurance plan or a gift annuity. For details on each of the above options, contact the President, Judith Skutch Whitson, at:
