Welcome & Overview
The Foundation for Inner Peace is the original, scribe-authorized publisher of A Course in Miracles (ACIM) since 1975. Our mission is to publish, distribute, and discuss the Course in a spirit of Love and support for every student who seeks its teachings. We aim to share ACIM responsibly, making these teachings more accessible worldwide, while safeguarding their integrity for future generations.
The 2nd and 3rd English Editions of ACIM are fully under copyright.
All non-English translations of ACIM are fully under copyright.
All materials published by the Foundation for Inner Peace are fully under copyright. Scroll down to review the list of FIP publications.
All Course material published by the Foundation for Inner Peace after the first edition of A Course in Miracles (the “Criswell Edition,” 1975) is under copyright. Only the Criswell Edition was placed in the public domain in the United States only, and its registered copyright (No. A693944) was voided.
Materials protected by copyright include: the Clarification of Terms and Preface, the two supplements, Psychotherapy and Song of Prayer, the added material and unique numbering in the Second Edition of A Course in Miracles, the Combined Volume Third Edition of A Course in Miracles, and all current and future translations. The Gifts of God (which contains Helen’s poetry and a fourteen-page scribing which bears the same name as the book) and all of Helen Schucman’s unpublished writings are also protected by copyright.
Regarding translations of A Course in Miracles
The Foundation for Inner Peace takes great care as stewards of the Course. Under copyright law, all translations are derivative works and, therefore, all current and future translations are protected by copyright and require the Foundation’s permission, regardless of which edition or manuscript is used as the source.
In 1982, Kenneth Wapnick and William Whitson established clear guidelines for the Foundation for Inner Peace for managing all translations of the Course and the supplements. The Foundation for Inner Peace ensures each translation reflects the fluency and fidelity to the style and meaning of the original. As A Course in Miracles states about translations: “Nevertheless, a good translator, although he must alter the form of what he translates, never changes the meaning. ⁴In fact, his whole purpose is to change the form so that the original meaning is retained.” (ACIM, T-7.II.4:3-4)
