50 Years of A Course in Miracles:
Remembering Those Who Carried It Forward
This “In Memoriam” Tribute video, originally created for our ACIM 50th Anniversary celebration, is offered in loving remembrance of those whose vision, service and listening helped bring the Course into the world, and whose lives became a living expression of its message.
Fifty years ago, on June 22, 1976, the first hardcover edition of A Course in Miracles was published: three simple volumes that had begun as a handwritten manuscript and would go on to find their way into the hands and hearts of students across continents, languages, and generations.
Just months before the publishing, the people entrusted with the Course had no master plan, and the path forward was anything but clear. The founders could see the growing hunger for the Course. They could not see how, in this world of form, they were supposed to meet it.
So they did what the Course would later also teach millions of students to do: they asked. They brought the question to the Holy Spirit with a genuine willingness to be shown. The answer they received was not a five-year strategic plan, a marketing blueprint, or a helpful roadmap. It was a simple invitation to trust:
Make the commitment first.
The ego, naturally, prefers the reverse order. The Course, however, has always had a different way of doing things. It reminds:
“Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait, and wait without anxiety.” (ACIM, M-4.VIII.1:1)
So they committed. They took the next step without knowing where the path would lead. And from that willingness, the rest unfolded.
The outcome was not yet visible, but the next step was. One act of trust led to another, and what began as a leap of faith became a worldwide journey of awakening that continues fifty years later. Today we see what the founders could not: Millions of books in print, translations around the world, study groups in living rooms, online gatherings, relationships formed, and lives transformed through countless moments of remembering that there must be another way.
We share this tribute in gratitude: for those who came before, for the work that continues, and for the countless students who carry this living teaching forward.
If you feel moved to support the Foundation for Inner Peace’s ongoing stewardship of A Course in Miracles, we welcome your participation. Fifty years ago, a few people took a step without seeing the whole path. Today, that extension continues through all who feel called to support and share it.
With gratitude and love,
